Get your read on

Dave Robicheaux is patiently waiting for me to finish another book without jealousy, because the other book isn't filled with characters that entice you to fall in love with them.  Although I'm currently reading "Decisive" by Chip Heath and Dan Heath, I went to the bookstore to look for the classic "All The King's Men," which I've been inspired to read at the recommendation of best selling author, Gretchen Rubin, who is also a blogger.  After reading the first 12 pages of "All The King's Men" in the library this afternoon, and reading the reviews of it on Goodreads, I decided to buy it for myself, but the store had it stocked only in paperback, so I decided to wait for another time.  As I browsed around, I noticed that James Lee Burke has a new Dave Robicheaux novel on the bestselling rack.  Since the library began and sustained my addiction to Dave Robicheaux, I figured it was about time that I put my money where my addiction is and I made a contribution to Mr. Burke's illustrious writing career.  Now, I have my very own Robicheaux novel, and I can't wait to finish up with my current book, so I can move on to being worried for this modern day swashbuckling  protagonist.  Yeah, Burke drew me in with his Big Easy settings, but I stayed for Robicheaux and his side kick Clete Purcel -- private investigator extraordinaire.  Let the games begin!

  1. Nothing like having a hard back copy of a great book - perhaps you can even get it autographed. :)

I enjoy Gretchen Rubin's writing - she is upbeat without being "cloying" about it!

    1. I think it's time for me to clear out some space on my bookshelves and make room only for the classics these days. However, Gretchen Rubin's books, "The Happiness Project and Happier at Home," are books that I could read over and over again, so they are definitely keepers!

  2. I miss bookstores! That's something you'll never really get with a Kindle. Sure, there are recommendations at the bottom of the screen while you're scrolling through your carousel, but it just doesn't compare to being able to pick up a book and read it!
