Take a break ... delegate.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Today is Day 21 of the Everyday Happy Project – Take regular breaks.

We carry out tasks far better if we take regular breaks. Frequent breaks aren’t skiving, they’re energizing and essential for your well being.
There I was, minding my own business, trying to take a break from adulthood ... when all of a sudden I heard a familiar ping.  An e-mail ping.  That ping emanated from none other than the head honcho at work who was emailing me to ask me to take on a very adult task.

I hesitated before replying.  But, you will be proud to know that I did not say, NO, sorry I'm taking a break from adulthood.  Instead, I said yes.  A hearty, bold, resounding YES, followed by an upbeat ... I would love to help you with that.  Shortly thereafter, panic set in.

Yeah yeah, I’m well acquainted with life’s MO – plucking people out of desired obscurity at any moment – hoping for willing participants, but also perfectly willing to take those who choose to kick and scream, enjoying the skirmish with its more tenacious resistors. I guess there comes a point in life, when you realize that resistance is futile, and you agree to be a grown up and plan your long time co-worker’s retirement luncheon.

After the panic wore off, I settled into an "oh crap" state of mind.

Born into a non fru fru family, and currently being the antithesis of Emily Post, I have never been much of a party planner. I’m not your “go to person” for showers, receptions or even birthday parties. Not saying that I have never hosted a small soiree now and then, but I sorely lack the skills needed to host a luncheon for 55 people.

My first instinct was to rally the troops, so I called on our eldest and most socially experienced staff member. I explained the task at hand, and told her she was now the unofficial CEO of our two person team, and that all she had to do was tell me what to do, and I would make it happen. She rattled off a list of things that needed to be done, and I immediately called the Public Relations firm which our firm has on retainer, and gave a very perky PR owner all the details “she” would need to make this retirement shindig happen. I used to question the need for a Public Relations firm. I now get it. I totally get it. I’m even thinking of hiring a PR person of my very own. I could really use someone like that in my personal life.

Who knew that being in charge was going to be so easy, while simultaneously outfoxing adulthood?   Talk about laid back multi-tasking.

Ahhhh .... aren't breaks great?

P.S.  Skiving is a non American term (the Everyday Happy book is by an British author) which means slacking off.

Annoyance 055

Lickety Splitter is weary in her bones.   Her brave skeleton continues to fight against the crush of gravity which is constantly pressing against her average frame.  Confined to the life of an ill devised office space, instead of the Life of Riley, she is tempted to pitch a fork in her spirit and bone crushing career, and call it done.

Since that idea isn't currently feasible, she is considering hanging upside down like a bat in the hopes that any compacting can eventually be reversed.

Ain't misbehaving ain't nowhere near the truth of it.

If you are back reading on my blogs you missed almost all of this post, because I have edited almost all of this post.  Only the smallest of pieces remain to remind me of the event, but most is now gone because of an anonymous and non trustworthy snoopy reader.

If he keeps on with those sort of shenanigans come Monday, I SHALL call him out for a duel.  I SHALL stand as boldy before him as Ignio Montoya in the Princess Bride, sword drawn!  Hmmm ... I better get busy shopping for a sword.

Alrighty then, it should now be Saturday -- when this post pops up for you to read.  I wrote it yesterday, but delayed its wrath, because yesterday was SOLELY reserved for BIRTHDAY LOVE!  And, since it is Saturday, that means I enjoyed a lovely evening with my best friend last night, just tooling around, chatting and having dinner.  Today, I plan to hang out with my mother, either yard sale-ing (sailing would be more like it -- I'm a fast looker) or looking for a rug to go with her new living room funiture.  Sunday, its a road trip to a neighboring state.  Overall, I have decompressed since the work day, and Mr. Blue Bird is once again sitting on my shoulder.

Happy Saturday my little darlings!

Am I in hormone hell or are some people really that annoying?

I wish I knew some curse words that weren't curse words but sound like curse words, and I wish I could use them on anybody I want to use them on.  Who took a giant bite out of my brownie?  Why, that lady at the XXX's office whom I just spoke with.  Mind you, I use the word "spoke" as loosely as possible.  That heifer barely let me get a word in edgewise.  And hello!  I called her.  How the hell does she know what I want to ask or talk about, if she just keeps talking over me?

In my next life, I am coming back as a federal or state employee.  Apparently, they don't have to worry about any of their clients getting mad and never coming back for a return visit.  Not all, I'm sure, but many whom I speak with, have lost touch with what I think is corporate reality.  They don't care what you want, what you need or what you wish to tell them.  They have their own set of rules, and they will change them and expect you to know it without them ever informing you.  And to add insult to injury, they now seem to have lost their ability to LISTEN.

By the time I extricated myself from that "conversation," I felt as if I had been several rounds in the ring with a prize fighter.

How does one politely tell another ... to shut the hell up and listen?

Happy didn't go so lucky.

Happy things:

I'm waiting on my Flamingo print.  The hopeful thought of its arrival has caused a positive spike on my mood-o-meter.  I actually feel like a child waiting for Santa Claus to arrive.  Ohh please come today!  (I have my fingers crossed that Etsy will do right by me.)

One of my employers/friends invited me to a college football game which is coming up this weekend.  I love the pageantry of it all, the restaurants and being somewhere different.  So, I may take him up on that offer.

Puu leeze!:

Someone, who shall remain nameless, has ......

If you are back reading my blog, you missed the majority of this blog post.  I thought it best to delete the majority of this section due to an anonymous snoopy and possibly destructive blog stalker!

Although, I could not empathize, I chose to fake sympathy instead of point out the obvious.  One point for me -- not for the fake sympathy, but for silencing my smart ass thoughts.

But I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell.

Sorry, Pukka Purl has deleted the ooooie gooie goodie out of this post.

If you are a fellow MB 20 fan, may the force be with you.

Annoyance 042

I work with a pack of misplaced polar bears.

Why can't "they" make office chairs with seat warmers like those in cars, or make keyboards which emanate heat like floor tile?

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Yawn, big YAWN.

I am a social butterfly who wasn't aware of that fact when I was surrounded by other social butterflies. For various reasons, over the years, my work place has lost most of those social butterflies. The most entertaining, cool and interesting ones have flown the scene. I keep hoping more will come along to fill the void. I'm happy to report that at least one came along, but unhappy to report that one just isn't enough. I think it would be so cool, if I could drive up to a window and place my order for a bevy of dynamic and social co-workers, whose mere chatter would fill the chasm in my well being of sociability.  Yeah yeah, I know I am responsible for my own happiness, but I think our work place contributes a lot to our overall happy factor.

Other than that short lament, things are going well today.  My friend is in from out of town, and she and a mutual friend met me at my house for a chatty lunch.  They are both accountants, and today is probably the HAPPIEST day of the year for them.   Their exciting happiness of being released from tax prison was contagious and I benefitted from their excitement and company.  I love friends!
