So, I’m all like, “Hey mama. Nothing feels real anymore.”
My mother asked, “What do you mean? What doesn’t feel real anymore?
I said, “Nothing, nothing feels real anymore. Like, I touched my thumbnail with the touching part of my pointing finger, and it felt weird, just weird. It’s like everything is just floating, and you know how I hate floating.”
My mother gave me a look that wanted to say, “Oh crap, she’s cracking up on me.”
Instead of letting that “oh crap” look take voice, my mother said, “Floating isn’t that bad. Think of when you were little, and you used to pick dandelions and blow their fuzzy heads off. They went floating, and you thought that was fun.”
I said, “I know, but the dandelion fuzz had a breeze.”
My mother said, “Your dad has some candy, let me get you some.”
Have a listen to this song which matches my floating feeling. No worries, no strings attached, no purchase necessary.

Hey there, have you still got snow? Floating in a moonlit sky with a smowman can be fun xxJ
ReplyDeleteThat snow day was a "one day out of three decades" event. So, nope, no snow to float in, but we still have moonlight :)
ReplyDeleteProbably my favourite modest mouse song of all time. Also nothing feeling real, I find is part of adult life. So just don't grow up.
ReplyDeleteJay, Float One is definitely my all time favorite Modest Mouse song! Thanks for the advice. Gotta any tips on how not to grow up?
ReplyDeleteOoops, meant to type "Float On."
ReplyDeletestart with something small, like having KD for supper.
ReplyDeleteI might would, if I knew what KD was.
ReplyDeleteWhat! what! The product was originally marketed as Kraft Dinner, but is now known in the United States and other countries as Kraft Macaroni & Cheese (Dinner). In the United Kingdom, it is marketed as simply Macaroni and Cheese, while due to its popularity and nostalgic quality in Canada, it has retained its original name of Kraft Dinner (and the nickname KD). The product is also heavily promoted toward children in the United States on television with the promotional name Kraft Cheese & Macaroni. When advertising to younger children, the television advertisement encourages the children to ask for "The Blue Box."
ReplyDeleteAhhh ... I am best friends with Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, but I have never heard it called anything else other than Mac and Cheese. We just assume it's Kraft, because it always was. I actually bought some of that yesterday. But I was too childlike to cook up a box of it. Instead, I popped a microwave bag of popcorn and had that for dinner instead.
ReplyDeletenicely done, you should have included a candy apple to complete the ensemble. (rolls eyes) I see you are choosing to ignore the tidbit of information that I included above that it was not always kraft mac and cheese, I'll take this as you feeling superior that you guys won the game last night.
ReplyDeleteI didn't ignore it. I appreciate the history lesson. I was just saying that when we think of Macaroni and Cheese, its Kraft we automatically think of, not Velveeta ...
ReplyDeleteAs for feeling superior over a game ... if you are speaking of the Olympics, I can't say I know whether or not we won anything. That, I have mostly ignored, out of no malice, simply no interest in winter sports because they are foreign notion to me, as a deep southerner. We don't have the climate to pursue those in our daily lives, so there stems the lack of interest.
It was an olympic hockey game yes, it was all anybody would talk about the other day.
