Elves needed ...

*************************************

I wish I could muster the OOOMPH needed to put up a Christmas tree, but it hasn't kicked in yet, and it may not kick in at all this year.  So far, it isn't looking good.  It didn't kick in last year either, nor the year before.  Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas.  And, I definitely love my Christmas decorations and ornaments, of which I have a closet full.   What I don't love, is all the work that goes into getting a tree and stringing the lights.  Stringing Christmas lights around a tree isn't for over worrying electrical novice me.  "They" say you should not string more than 3 strands of lights together, but they don't say HOW to string more than 3 strands on the tree, and any tree I have ever selected, could easily eat 3 strands for breakfast.   I know they are not saying you can't put more than 3 strands on a tree.  I realize they mean you cannot connect more than 3 strands, but they don't tell you much else.  Like how do you not connect them if you only have one electrical outlet near by?   I'm not saying that I have never strung the lights on a tree, because I have.  After my second fiance moved out after nearly 14 years together, I usually did it all by myself, but it was never a pretty sight in progress.  I mostly just winged it.  I would poke more and more strings of lights in the tree, and the tree would inevitably poke me back.   Thankfully, I never fell off the ladder.  Nor did the tree ever catch fire.  I can't say how I managed to get all those lights on those trees without connecting more than 3 strands, but I know I did.

This is not the only time of year that I sing the praises of a man, but it is THE one time of year that I never fail to sing a man's christmas light stringing praises from sea to shining sea.  Getting the tree and stringing the lights are the two obstacles between me and my ornaments.  Well that, and all the work that goes into decorating the house, just for little ole me.

It's really a shame, all these beauties are all boxed up.

Snow babies!!!

Eye spy anyone?  Find the spider web ornament, it's one of my favorites.

Can you tell that I actually love Christmas?

  1. Well.. you can forego the string of lights - maybe a nice bright spotlight on your tree would help cheer you up? My grandmother used to have this cool spotlight that changed color every few seconds...

I'm a little concerned about ya.. you sound a bit glum.

My biggest memory of christmas tree lights is untangling the things that my mom put away. She managed to knot every string together without fail. :) I never really minded...

  2. @Iggy -- I'm really fine. I'm only a little out of sorts due to the change in season. I miss all those after work hours of sunlight. I resist decorating lately mostly because it really is a lot of work, and its just me. If I had children, I would dutifully take on the task. Never fear, I am not totally without Christmas decorations ;)

  3. I'm lucky. I have grandkids who loved to decorate the tree. If it were up to me there would be no Christmas around here. But Judy and the kiddies overruled me. Bah Humbug!

  4. @Coffey -- You are Santa! You should have enough elves to loan me a few!

  5. I'll tell you this, I did have a hard time getting started with the christmas decorating this year. Truth be told... our pre-lit fake tree IS up. But no ornaments adorn it. We just turn the lights on and it's pretty enough for me. I miss the pine smell, but this is much easier to deal with, believe me.

  6. @Nikki -- oh child, no need to worry. Everything is really fine. The world won't come to an end if I don't put up a real tree, string lights around it and decorate it with all my beautiful ornaments. I have smaller tabletop trees for every other room in the house, and those will give me plenty of Christmas cheer.
