Moving on from that last post ...

My mother has been looking for new living room furniture, so we have been here, there and yonder looking for a sofa, chairs, a coffee table, a rug, and some fabric for new pillows. We bought a sofa and two chairs, which we promptly hated once we got them home.  The sofa went back (thank God it was damaged in shipping ... it was so much easier to return), and I am now trying to adopt out her chairs.  I think my mother should have returned those too, but she says she can live with them.  Maybe she can, but I can't, so the hunt goes on, and you can never ever go on a hunt for or with someone and not find something you love.  I found and loved this ...

I initially found this print in a town about an hour from our home city, but it was in a much gawdier frame, which I didn't really like, and the price wasn't a shocker, but I thought it was likely inflated, as most of the prices in the store seemed to be. Besides, I'm an auction kind of a girl. No way I'm paying full retail for stuff like that. I love the thrill of the hunt and the negotiation, so I got busy on E-bay and Etsy and scored this vintage beauty from the 1950s for what I think is a very reasonable price. Other prints may be a dime a dozen in the grand scheme of the world, but these Flamingo beauties aren't on display down at your local Pier One, and that sadness ups the ante. Considering that the one I saw in the antique store was $200.00, I thought the one I got on Etsy was a steal at $100.00. Yes people, I checked high and low before I paid that price. It was the lowest one I could find, and probably the finest print condition. The happiness it will bring me every day is priceless. I'm impatiently waiting for my flamingos to make their way across the country from AZ. I thought that it was interesting that the print was located in Arizona, given its desert landscape, but I'm guessing there are flamingo loving people all over the world. I now have my eye on a page of water birds from a vintage Audubon book which is going for $5.00. It's best not to love only the Flamingo, the other birds may get jealous, and we don't want an Alfred Hitchcock incident.

Yay for scoring a deal on the flamingo print.

  2. Hey Lola!

The 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s own my decorating heart. Flamingo, shells, the sea and other nature related subjects are always on the top of my list. I'm also sweet on "pink and orange" and ocean blue!

  5. I just left a link - or I thought I had, to some flamingos that live in the Atacama desert in South America.

I saw this "mating dance" on PBS and thought it was amusing.
