There ain't nothing casual about my Friday!

(For any of you non southerners or for that fact southerners, who never use the word ain't, I would politely ask you to bear with my heritage.  If not, I (and my fellow ain't speaking southerners) will take great pride in any disdain you may broach.  We love that you underestimate our intellect based on our southern-ease ;)  Now, for the rest of the story ...

It's just another Friday here in our office.  It's also the designated "casual day" at our office.  The allowance of a casual dress day was such a departure from our long established dress code (50 years), that the GRAND POOBAHS decided we should have a sign made up and placed on the receptionist's desk to inform the public that Friday is "casual day" in our office, lest our clients be taken aback or shocked into cardiac arrest by the sea of khakis that would supposedly supplant our respective business suits, ties, dress trousers, dresses and required hosiery for the ladies.  Granted, most employees do take advantage of casual Friday to don their khakis or at least less formal trousers.  I, on the other hand, delight in the irony of standing by that sign in full on dress up finery on Fridays.  I started taking the wardrobe to the next level on Fridays after they allowed the casual attire, just because I thought that sign was the height of ridiculousness.  Now, I dress up on Fridays, most always donning a dress, heels and silky hosiery, because I quickly recognized the advantage of showing up in a dress and heels in that sea of khakis ;)

  1. When I worked in an office, the only day of the week that I would wear a tie was on Fridays.

  2. I once wore a pair of swimshorts and a very bright (read visually nauseating) hawaiian shirt on "cas-day".

My manager endeavored to explain it was a wee tad too casual when the CEO wandered in wearing a tank top and something only slightly more covering than a speedo.

The company ended casual days not long after that - (Johnson and Johnson bought the company out).
