OMG people! I'm not one of those people who hate foreigners, but someone speaking English in an accent that is totally incomprehensive to me, does me no good when I need help. I called the Circuit Court in Fairfax County, Virginia (which is already a foreign thing to me) this morning to inquire about their filing procedures, and was assisted by someone who clearly spoke English without my favored southern accent. She was speaking with a heavy Indian accent (from the country of India), and I barely understood a word she said without having to ask her to literally spell the word out and give me a Hello to go with H, a Tom to go with a T, another Tom to go with the next T, and Paul to go with P. Needless to say, that was slow going, and my brain glazed over before I closed the conversation.
Apparently, I am going to have to call again, and hope I get someone who speaks with any American accent.
Is it really too much to ask for those designated to field the public's inquiries to be understandable to the public they serve? Aren't there other positions they could do?

That is what happens when companies outsource our jobs to other countries. Even though you called Virginia, the call probably was routed to India, or the India lady was a trainee visiting VA or something. Thats what I hate so much about big companies! Even your insurance might be handled in another county without your knowledge (I got laid off because of outsourcing and I worked for property insurance)
ReplyDelete@Nikki -- I think it's high time for a reverse revolution.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you forgot to press '1' for English.
ReplyDeleteprecisely Lickety. You should try working for an inbound call agency that is outsourced from India to the Southern states. Who know's maybe they won't be able to understand you.
